The Willo Marathon

The Willo was founded as a tribute to the late Australian National XCM Champion James Williamson, we are proud to continue his legacy through this event.

James was 26 years old and will always be remembered as a top-level XCO and XCM rider. He was passionate about the sport in every way, as well as being an Australian and World 24 hour champion. Founded by Meg Patey, Willo’s aunt and supported by his best friends and riding mates, the Willo race is now managed by Rocky Trail Entertainment under Meg’s patronage.

This race offers multiple distances from 40km to 80km classifications on a giant circuit that combines all three mountain bike trail networks in Nowra:  Coondoo, Superbowl, and Butterfly trails in the Nowra and Currambene State Forests. Additionally, a 12km version will also be run for younger riders and those new to the sport.

Welby XCC

This is a short course cross country race, at Welby. XCC stands for Cross Country Criterium. Riders race around a short loop of around 1km and race for a specified time (10, 15 or 20 minutes based on category) + an extra one lap. So after the leader of a 20 minute race comes through timing for the first time after the 20 minute mark, they get a bell signalling one lap to go. Every rider behind them also gets a bell and has one lap to go (even if they have been lapped). The winner is the rider with the most laps and the shortest time.

This format is fun for kids entering their first race as there is lots of spectator support. It is also fun for elite racers and everyone in between as there is plenty of room for passing and lots of opportunity for fast riding. The adults and kids do not race at the same time, so they can cheer and heckle each other on! The number of start groups will be decided on the day based on the number of entrants in each category. All riders should be ready to race at 6:00pm.

Kirrikee Xmas Social Ride

A social ride and morning tea to finish off the year.

Meet at Kirrikee at 7:30am for an 8am departure into the wilds of Penrose SF.
We’ll head along Kareela Rd and Penrose Forest Way before taking the fireroads to Stingray Swamp, where we’ll stop for morning tea and (optional) swim.

For the family members that just want to come along for the goodies, it’s an easy walk into Stingray Swamp from either Ferndale Road or Penrose Forest Way (both are marked on the map below).

For both riders and those walking in from Penrose Forest Way, be prepared to get your feet wet as there’s a few shin-deep water crossings along the way.

Wingello XCM

15/30/45km event, Wingello, Saturday 27th April, 2pm

Return to Wingello! Since the forest fires of 2020, Wingello has been closed as most of the old 26km loop was lost. A team of volunteers from Highlands Trails have rejuvenated part of the old loop and plans are underway for extending the network. Come and ride the first reclaimed section, which includes classic favourites such as Cover Shot, Princesses Revenge and Tangles, with some cool new features.

This event will be based on a 15km loop. Adults can choose to ride in C, B or A grade, which corresponds to 1, 2 or 3 laps of the 15km course, so that you ride 15, 30 or 45km in total. U9, U11 and U13 riders will ride 1 lap of the course (which may be shortened depending on the experience level of the entrants). E-Bike, U15 rand U17 riders should specify in the comments of their entry the number of laps they would like to ride.

Note that race HQ will be at the end of Martins Road (turn right as soon as you enter Wingello State Forest).
